Seasonal Notes from Ann
Winter 2005 - 06

Winter Sunrise from my studio (photo)

This image of radials streaming up as the sun rose over Mt. Mansfield was stunning! It made me want to paint. I keep my camera at hand to capture such moments and suggest you do the same. You never know when a wonderful subject will appear. It is amazing how much our environment can change from day to day. There is always subject matter nearby. We just need to notice it. So often we rush through life, barely seeing our surroundings.  We would be wise to make a practice of living fully in each moment, savoring every second; increasing our awareness of even the little things that may have meaning for us. This time of the year is perfect for renewing our Divine connection and recognizing it in all living things. I hope you’ll consciously take the time to live with greater awareness and experience the joy of living fully awake.

Here are a few winter landscapes I’ve been inspired to paint over the years.
Consider painting a series of scenes trying different points of view, different color combinations and different lighting effects. Give yourself permission to creatively explore your ideas. You are not obliged to copy what you think you see. You can eliminate, change, add and edit, if it makes a better painting.
