Seasonal Notes from Ann
Fall 2003

Schuyler Island & Camel’s Hump MT.

Fall is the season of harvest and completion. I hope your harvest is one of many successful paintings! Think about reviewing your work; look at both old and new paintings and notice where there has been growth. If you paint enough, you will see a change! Use a mirror to look at your work, turn paintings upside down too. It will help you see them more objectively. Look for elements that could be improved (paint quality, design, values, etc.) and then concentrate on those elements for the next few months.

EDIT & DESIGN

Gather any last reference photos of late blooms for use during winter. If you don’t have a garden, visit a botanical garden in your area. When you plan your paintings from photos always edit them. You decide how much of the subject will make a good painting. Try using a close or unusual point of view. You may find there are several possible choices. It is possible to make a series of paintings from just one photo, with each one a little different.
