Winter greetings to you as we celebrate the Holidays and welcome the new year. Last year was a productive one for me and resulted in having paintings juried into 12 national shows. I was honored with five awards from those exhibitions. I remain busy and have included some new works below.

Rapid Flow is painted on Bainbridge plate illustration board. It is similar to the Strathmore plate board that I often use and I like it almost as well. Wonderful textures can be achieved on it. The slick surface takes a bit longer to dry, so patience is required. That can be a good thing, allowing one to carefully ponder the next step. The palette is Burnt and Raw Umber, French Ultramarine and Cobalt Blue and a bit of Quinacridone Coral.

“Cascade” is on Strathmore plate illustration board, my all time favorite surface for watercolor. Both of these paintings were done using a simple palette of just a few warm and cool colors. All textures were made with just water, paint and the smooth surfaces.

“Tranquil” was painted on Lanaquarelle 140LB cold pressed paper. This was painted by wetting sections and letting the colors mingle on the surface. I reserved whites by painting around them. Darks were achieved by adding more pigment before the washes dried.

NEWS

I have cut way back on travel and teaching away workshops the last few years. My 3 geriatric cats are requiring increased care and it is much easier if I am home.

I am looking for a new space locally in which to teach workshops. If anyone has a suggestion I’d welcome that. It needs to be on ground level, with ample parking nearby and air conditioning for summer. It also needs good lighting and enough space for 20 students or so. The Peru Community Church has been perfect, except that it does not have air conditioning. Our summers seem to be running extra hot and humid so this has become a must. I am hoping to find something for a workshop in 2018. Any new workshops will be posted here on my website on the workshop page.
