SEASONAL NOTES SUMMER 2018
Summer is finally here and I’ve been trying to catch up with the weeds in the gardens, so have not painted as much as I’d like. Here are some of the paintings I have produced. These first two are paintings of stray cats I’ve encountered and photographed. The first was a small kitten in a nearby feral colony. Homeless is a half sheet painting on Strathmore plate illustration board. I initially planned a dark background and some grasses around the kitten. As I developed it I thought it would better express it’s sweet and vulnerable nature to keep the background

SEASONAL NOTES SPRING 2018
I’ve been revisiting a few paintings from the past and painted on this one again. To the right is the original version of Dahlia Duo. I enhanced the intensity of color and values on this full sheet painting. In places the changes were subtle, but I think the painting is better for it. Here are a few recent paintings. Filtered Light is painted on Strathmore Plate Illustration board. This let me make textures and lift easily. This is a high key painting, so has no very dark values. This warm and cool painting has a simple palette of earth colors

SEASONAL NOTES WINTER 2017 – 2018
Warm greetings to you as we celebrate the Holidays and welcome the new year. Over the past year I produced many new paintings. I was fortunate to have some juried into 15 national exhibitions and I was honored with two awards from those exhibitions. I taught a one day workshop at View Arts Center in Old Forge, NY in August. Below are some of my new works. Fall Flow is painted on Strathmore plate illustration board. Wonderful textures can be achieved on it. The slick surface also allows easy lifting. The palette is Burnt Umber, Quinacridone Coral, French Ultramarine and

SEASONAL NOTES Fall 2017
Summer Symphony was painted on Plate Illustration board. It was fun to work with a limited palette and create a variety of textures. The back lighting gave me an interesting group of shapes to paint. Colors used are; Raw & Burnt Umber, Quinacridone Coral, Permanent Rose, Cobalt Blue and Berlin Blue, by Maimeri, Blu. NEWS FALL My one-day workshop in August at View Arts Center in Old Forge, NY resulted in several demonstrations that follow. JURIED EXHIBITIONS PUBLICATIONS

SEASONAL NOTES SUMMER 2017
Winter took forever to leave us here and spring has been slow moving. On the bright side, all the rain we’ve had was great for newly planted shrubs. I also had ample time for painting. Here are some of the new pieces I’ve produced. Haughty Hollyhock is painted on Waterford 140lb. cold pressed paper. It has a strong light pattern and I played up the subtle color changes within the washes. A combination of hard and soft edges help to model the shapes. NEWS SUMMER 2017 I will be participating in a Mini Workshop series Sponsored by the Central

SEASONAL NOTES WINTER 2016-2017
NEWS I have cut way back on travel and teaching away workshops the last few years. My 3 geriatric cats are requiring increased care and it is much easier if I am home. I am looking for a new space locally in which to teach workshops. If anyone has a suggestion I’d welcome that. It needs to be on ground level, with ample parking nearby and air conditioning for summer. It also needs good lighting and enough space for 20 students or so. The Peru Community Church has been perfect, except that it does not have air conditioning. Our

SEASONAL NOTES SUMMER 2016
Summer is filled with events again for me. I will have a small show of new and recent paintings, teach a workshop and I’ve just completed a 4th digital book. The book is a short one about the spiritual side of painting and how everything in one’s life has an effect on one’s paintings. It suggests ways we can support making better art. I have completed several new paintings since the beginning of the year. A few are painted on Terra Skin paper, which is a very smooth surface, much like Yupo. I like what it produces and will probably

SEASONAL NOTES SPRING 2016
I always want to clean out the house and garden once Spring arrives and I’ve begun purging materials and books from the studio that I’m ready to pass on. If you’re also so inclined, look for local schools and teachers who might be very glad to have the materials. Why let them sit unused year after year when they could be appreciated by someone else. It is a freeing experience to do this. This white Iris is another in a series of Iris paintings. The other two have sold. I enhanced the mingled colors in the center area and reflecting
