From the Studio
The portrait series of my cats continues with this one of Kelsey, titled, “Pensive”. I managed to catch a photo of him in great lighting and later took several more of his eye in this position. The surface is a half sheet of Crescent hot press illustration board. It allowed me to lift some hairs in the highlights and sculpt edges with a damp brush.
I made a very light drawing on the surface with pencil prior to painting. paper using Winsor Newton non-staining Manganese Blue. I “erased with a damp brush.
Glorious Gloxinia; left, is on a half sheet of Strathmore vellum heavyweight 5 ply illustration board. Hibiscus is on a half sheet on Crescent hot press illustration board.
I no longer teach workshops. I do have 4 digital books, a hard cover book and 2 videos on this site for those who want to see information about how I paint, my materials and more.
There is also painting information in the archived issues of the Seasonal Notes from other seasons and in several articles and interviews posted under the Articles heading in the top Bar of the Home page. You can view a variety of my paintings on the gallery pages. Many of these are still available for sale. Contact me if you are interested in information about a particular painting.
