From the Studio
The portrait series of my cats continues with this one of Kelsey, titled, “Pensive”. I managed to catch a photo of him in great lighting and later took several more of his eye in this position. The surface is a half sheet of Crescent hot press illustration board. It allowed me to lift some hairs in the highlights and sculpt edges with a damp brush.
I made a very light drawing on the surface with pencil prior to painting. paper using Winsor Newton non-staining Manganese Blue. I “erased with a damp brush.

Glorious Gloxinia; left, is on a half sheet of Strathmore vellum heavyweight 5 ply illustration board. Hibiscus is on a half sheet on Crescent hot press illustration board.
