Seasonal Notes Summer 2014

Rainbow

Photo From the Studio: Rainbow

Summer has arrived and I’ve been spending a great deal of time in the gardens. I have continued to paint though and will share some results here.

I will once again hold an open studio here on Sunday, July 20th, from 1:00 -4:00 pm. There will be more than 200 paintings on view and for sale and guests will be free to roam the grounds and enjoy our beautiful view of lake and mountains. Refreshments will be served for your enjoyment. My new digital book and my other books and videos will be available for purchase.

Magical-Marsh

Magical Marsh 14 x 21″

Here’s a new painting on Yupo of a nearby marsh. This is a different subject for me, but it was fun working with the rather abstract shapes. I altered the colors from those in my photo and like this combination. I used: Cerulean, Prussian Green, New Gamboge, Coral, Burnt Umber and Winsor Purple. There are many negatively painted areas and quite a few lifted ones. This surface is great for creating water textures and I used wet in wet techniques and lifting in those areas. There is a risk of “never being quite finished with Yupo, because you can lift and rework the surface so easily.
