Sunrise From the Studio (photo)
Sun-struck is on a half sheet of Strathmore plate, heavyweight illustration board, which has a liftable surface. This makes it easy to create smooth edges and lift lights. The subject is from a photo I took while hiking here in the Adirondacks in New York State several years ago. I wet an area with a damp brush and then applied paint, letting colors mix on the surface. Lights were lifted with a thirsty damp brish. Values and colors were intensified after dry by applying more paint. Some shapes were slightly altered. The board was on an easel, at a medium angel to encourage the paint to move.
The painting won awards in the 2013 Old Forge National, the 2015 Montana Watercolor Society National and the 2019 Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club Annual Exhibition
